Mary Spalding is well known throughout the Bay Area for her steel drum band, Steel Jam, which provides music for corporate events, private parties, and community gatherings. A native Midwesterner, Mary moved to San Francisco in 1993 in order to a) participate in the thriving World Music scene in the Bay Area and b) never have to shovel snow again!

With a music education degree from Lawrence University and a graduate degree in World Music from Wesleyan University, she has devoted the past 25 years to studying and performing steel drum music and has traveled to Trinidad numerous times to play with award-winning steel bands in Carnival and in Panorama steel band competitions.

She also is a popular performer for school assembly programs, recycled instrument-building residencies, and hands-on steel drum workshops, having provided her enthusiastic knowledge and talent at countless school programs and for a myriad of corporations and civic groups.

Mary has also been acclaimed for her multi-media presentations about the history and culture of Caribbean music that has delighted audiences throughout the country.

Mary Spalding and Steel Jam provide fun, informative, professional programs in a solo format and in combination with up to five additional steel drum players and percussionists.Mary and Mister McGruff
